I better get off my duff !!

Well here it is, mid September 2010 and not a heck of a lot done again this year. I did get the pottery studio cleaned up and ready to go. I hope to make a trip up north and get some clay sometime this weekend and see about getting some firing done by a fellow potter, at least until I get my own kiln set up and running. Going to make a trip to Maine to go look at a gas kiln here real soon. I got a little side tracked this summer with my new camera and have been having some fun with it. What a difference a good camera and couple of good lenses make. I have a few classes coming up over the next two or three months I am going to take just to learn how to operate the camera and to get some ideas on lenses, filters and lighting. I do have some of my photowork on Redbubble ,Picture Trail ,and a ton of pictures on Flicker under the name Silver Worker . Please feel free to leave any comments on any of my photos. Check back from time to time.

It has been a while since my last post.

I guess I had better stay with what I started, this blog. Here is a little update as to what I'm doing now. I am still doing sterling silver work and I have also started a few other art/craft projects. The biggest thing now is getting my handcrafted paper project under way. I would like to have a Hollander beater but will probably have to build one myself. That is another whole project. The Hollander will allow me to turn plant fibers and sorted fabric into paper pulp. But for now I will use the food blender and recycled paper method to make my pulp. Later today I am going to make a couple of molds and deckles in sizes to make handmade greeting cards. I hope to soon be adding fabric to my pulp ( the Hollander beater ) will make this easier.

In the mean time , I am also cleaning the pottery studio as winter is setting in fast and I hope to work in there on a few ideas/projects that have been floating around in my head for a couple of years. I guess I'll have to remember to get pictures posted as I go along here just to maybe keep things a little more interesting.

I hope to ad to my blog at least once a week, post some pictures of my projects and maybe-just maybe get some thoughts pulled together so the blog makes some sort of sense. I think I'll just toss a random picture or two of things in my studio or from some of my mountain biking expeditions. Thoughts, comments or suggestions good or bad are always welcome. The picture I have here is just a bunch of my colored pencils at my desk. I now have a 16" X 20" of this photo hanging on my wall and I am also using it as my desktop.

A Small Sample Of My Sterling Silver Creations

Here is a sample of my sterling silver jewelry I create here in my New Hampshire home studio. I have done some sort of craft or art work most of my life in one medium or another. From drawing with pencils and pastels as a young boy to a having a one person photography show or doing hand built or wheel thrown pottery, painting, woodworking, metalworking and at present sterling silver jewelry. I have had many many different jobs/experiences in my life which I believe have led me to seeking out a living involving my ability to create something of beauty. Everything I know how to do is self taught. I do not recommend or condone dropping out of school as I did but and I don't regret the path I have taken except that I wish I had spent more time with the art aspect of my life. I would recommend if something wakes you up at night with an idea, don't put it off as I did, you may regret it later. I don't know how this blog thing works or how it will work out but it may be an avenue for my thoughts and maybe receive some ideas for the future. Now if I could just figure out how to get more than 3-4 hours of sleep each night without more ideas !!
